چکیده

In this paper we are concerned with the problem of solving numerically isospectral flows. These flows are characterized by the differential equation L′ = [B(L), L], L(0) = L0, where L0 is a d × d symmetric matrix, B(L) is a skew-symmetric matrix function of L and [B,L] is the Lie bracket operator. We show that standard Runge–Kutta schemes fail in recovering the main qualitative feature of these flows, that is isospectrality, since they cannot recover arbitrary cubic conservation laws. This failure motivates us to introduce an alternative approach and establish a framework for generation of isospectral methods of arbitrarily high order. 1. Background and notation 1.

Isospectral Flows for Displacement Structured Matrices

This paper concernes eigenvalue computations with displacement structured matrices, for example, Toeplitz or Toeplitz-plus-Hankel. A technique using isospectral flows is introduced. The flow is enforced to preserve the displacement structure of the originary matrix by means of a suitable constraint added in its formulation. In order to fulfil the constraint, the numerical integration of the flo...

Isospectral Flows and Abstract Matrix Factorizations * Moody T . Chu ? and Larry

A general framework for constructing isospectral flows in the space gl(n) of n by n matrices is proposed. Depending upon how gl(n) is split, this framework gives rise to different types of abstract matrix factorizations. When sampled at integer times, these flows naturally define special iterative processes, and each flow is associated with the sequence generated by the corresponding abstract f...

A case study of flood dynamic wave simulation in natural waterways using numerical solution of unsteady flows

Flood routing has many applications in engineering projects and helps designers in understanding the flood flow characteristics in river flows. Floods are taken unsteady flows that vary by time and location. Equations governing unsteady flows in waterways are continuity and momentum equations which in case of one-dimensional flow the Saint-Venant hypothesis is considered. Dynamic wave model as ...

The effect of boundary conditions on the accuracy and stability of the numerical solution of fluid flows by Lattice-Boltzmann method

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of boundary conditions on the accuracy and stability of the numerical solution of fluid flows in the context of single relaxation time Lattice Boltzmann method (SRT-LBM). The fluid flows are simulated using regularized, no-slip, Zou-He and bounce back boundary conditions for straight surfaces in a lid driven cavity and the two-dimensional flow ...

Semi-explicit methods for isospectral flows

In this paper we propose semi-explicit schemes based on Taylor methods for the solution of the isospectral equation L′ = [B,L] for d × d real matrices L, while reproducing the isospectrality of the exact equation. Although the theoretical solution may be symmetric, the proposed schemes usually do not retain symmetry of the underlying flow. We present techniques that allow us to decrease the bre...
